Community Garden Open Morning
On Saturday May 29th, we had a morning of glorious weather as we opened up the Community Garden to anyone who wanted to come in.
The Jolly Jazzers created a wonderful atmosphere from the outset, setting the tone for a convivial and informative morning. Stalls from the Beekeeping Association, John Lyons’ garden tools, Jim’s Jams, Lucy Williamson Nutrition, and Jane Williamson’s reusable veg bags were brilliantly supported, and Annie Griffiths’ Seed swap was a great success.
Many people had been unaware of the horticultural transformation that was happening behind the shop, and the curiosity was palpable! The bees, having only moved in to their new home a week previously, were remarkably docile, and no-one was stung, despite the crowds of people clustering round them and their flight path!
People were very generous with their donations, and we raised over £600 for the Garden, which will help enormously with our ongoing plans – thank you so much to all those who gave a contribution of any size.
We will be having another open morning (or evening) later in the summer, when things have come to fruition and the dahlias are in flower – look on the village website, the boards outside the shop, and on facebook `Sarratt Community Garden’ for further information.
